Talk about Children and Anxiety

Westerly Hospital Presents “Raising Resilient Children in the Age of Anxiety”

In honor of World Mental Health Day, Westerly Hospital will be hosting a free discussion on “Raising Resilient Children in the Age of Anxiety” on Tuesday, October 11 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the hospital’s Henry J. Nardone Conference Center.  The program will be presented in partnership with the Westerly Public School district and the Washington County Coalition for Children.

The program will be presented by Ellen Flannery Schroeder, PhD, ABPP, clinician at the New England Center for Anxiety in Westerly and Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Rhode Island and member of the Washington County Coalition for Children.

Dr. Schroeder will discuss how parents can identify anxiety and related difficulties in children, avoid common parenting practices which serve to maintain or worsen anxiety, use research-supported parenting strategies which lessen both the immediate and long-term impacts of anxiety and related distress, and best support children’s independent coping to manage difficult situations.

The program is free and open to all.
