We have now started Unit 4.3.3: Comparing Fractions and Decimals! In this unit, students get their first opportunity to explore decimal numbers through their relationship to fractions. Students will locate decimals in tenths and hundredths on a number line. They will also compare decimal numbers using area models, decimal grids, numbers lines, and meter sticks. Through these experiences, students understand that comparisons between fractions and decimals are only valid when the whole is the same.
