Remember, as you trace your character for each chapter, you must:
1) choose FIVE quotations/passages that reveal how your character plays a role in developing both plot & theme. Our goal is to look at how they use the "voice"--understanding that what we say is not limited to our words.
2) include a one-sentence explanation for EACH quote explaining what it reveals and why it matters.
3) compose at least ONE six-word memoir that reflects your character's perspective in each chapter.
Reminder of the questions that may help you choose your quotations:
|Personality||What lines/scenes/moments reveal the character’s personality traits? Where/how does their personality shift? What deeper understandings about the novel’s themes does the shift reveal?|
|Emotion||What role do the characters’ emotions play in how Lee unravels the plot & theme? Where/how do the emotions shift & change? What deeper understandings about the novel’s themes does the shift reveal?|
|Responsibility||To what/for whom is the character responsible? Ho does that impact their actions? What deeper understandings about the novel’s themes does the shift reveal?|
|Motivation||What motivates the character to act? What effect does that have on your understanding of them? The story? The deeper themes?|
