June Newsletter
June 5, 2015 Dear Families, WOW! Another school year is over. It feels like we just started our adventure at Kindergarten orientation. As they say “time goes by when you are having fun!” and that was definitely the case with us this year. It started with learning about each other, to learning how to become writers and readers, drilling each letter and letter sound, learning about each season, observing the weather, acting out songs, discovering the ocean and sea creatures, and exploring balls and ramps. The list is endless. We would like to thank all the parents and grandparents for your support this year, your children are very special to us and we thank you for letting us have the opportunity to teach them. We love their funny stories, their eagerness to learn and willingness to do new exciting things. Below is a list of things you will need to know for the last few weeks of school… 1. We will be tie-dying shirts for fun day! T-shirts will be provided by the PTO. Thank you PTO! 2. Fun day is Monday June 15th. Please come and join your child for a fun-filled day. A few things about fun day: please apply sunscreen to your child before school, baseball cap will also help protect your child from the sun, sneakers and socks are a must. We will be outside all day. Lastly, you are welcome to pack a lunch and have lunch with your child on the field. Please bring your own lawn chairs or beach blanket. Then we will proceed into the gymnasium where each child will get an award for participation. After the award ceremony, we are inviting all families to come back to our classroom to hear your child sing a few songs, collect all of their amazing journals and other amazing art work that is hung around our classroom. It will be a fun filled day! We hope to see you all. 3. Field Trip….Frosty Drew Nature Center! Attached is permission slip. There is no cost for this field trip. More information to come. 4. Last day of school is June 26th. This is a half-day for students

May’s Newsletter Welcome Spring! Here is an overview of the topics that will be covered in the month of May! Reading/Language Arts: *Books of interest: Rain, Runaway Bunny, Mushroom in the Rain, Spring is Here, The Spring Rabbit, Clifford’s Spring Clean Up, Puddles, Frog and Toad, The Mixed Up Chameleon, and our class favorite Stuck! *Concepts of Print: Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, return sweep Identify front and back covers of book, title page, author, illustrator, page numbers, beginning and end of text Differentiate letters, drawings, numerals, and words Recognize that print provides meaning Recognize that pictures support text *Phonemic Awareness: Given a spoken word set, identify if the medial sounds are the same or different Recognize changes in sounds (initial position) to change words *Comprehension: Identify the beginning, middle, and end of a story including the problem and solution Use context to determine the meaning of words (semantics) through listening to stories and reading early emergent or appropriate level books Monitor fix-up reading strategies, pictures, and first letter cues Recall important information from text *Poetry Folders: Retell the events of a poem *Letter/Sound Identification: Review digraphs- ch, th, sh, wh, ck Review short vowel sounds-a, e, i, o, u *Rhyming Chunks: -it, -ap *Word Recognition: Review all kindergarten sight words. Please encourage your child to use these words when they write so they can read and spell them independently. We will introduce the following trick words she, we, he, me, and we. Writing independently to convey ideas. Write independently (using approximated) spelling. Contribute to a shared writing experience with the teacher about a topic that has been read or discussed in class. Parent Teacher Conferences

Kindergarten News!
If you have a typical Kindergartner, when you ask the question, “What did you do today?” The answer is probably, Nothing”. Of course, this is not the case! We do many exciting things throughout the school day. Please read this newsletter to find out what we do in Ms. Clyne’s Kindergarten classroom. Here is a snap shot of what our day looks like in Kindergarten. We are non-stop from once the children greet me in the morning at the door until we say good-bye Ms. Clyne at the end of day! J This month has brought more familiarity with our daily routines and practices in Kindergarten. Kindergarten News! September 30, 2016
Kindergarten News Dear Families, Wow! What an amazing second week of Kindergarten. We are very excited to be well on our way. I look forward to a wonderful school year. We have had a very busy week. I am sure your child has come home exhausted and hungry! Continue to send in healthy snacks and water. This will help your child get through the long afternoon. Usually around this time your child may express that they don’t like school, as hard as it is to hear, it is typical. The realization of school being daily and the academic demands are hard on young children. I do recommend talking to your child later in the evening about how their day was. Asking them who they had lunch with or to name one fun thing you did in school today is more inviting to answer. Please contact me if you find your child becoming frustrated or saying they don’t like school. We will definitely work together to get them to feel successful and to truly love school! I hope your child has come home and shared all of the fun things we have done this week. If not, here are a few things we have done. We have met many new friends and sang a lot of songs. Here are a few songs we continue to sing daily: Hickety Pickety Bumble Bee, Head, shoulders, knees and toes, and our newest song… Ship to Shore! We will be reading many new stories, Franklin Goes to School, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See, and our favorite story Kindergarten Rocks! Next week we will begin rhyming words and learning two new letters. Keep reviewing Tt. We will be learning letters Bb and Ff. Other exciting news is that we have been practicing writing our first names only. We are learning that the first letter is capital and the rest are lowercase. Your child is responsible for writing their names like this daily. Next week we will be using magnetic letters to “build” our names. Fun! Fun!
