    Here’s a peek at what’s been happening and what’s ahead in Room 105…   Phonics/Fundations:   Students will continue to blend and read three-sound words.  We will change the initial, medial and final sounds to create new words.  Your child will learn how to segment and spell these words.  We’ll use the strategy of tapping out sounds in a word and write the letters corresponding to each tap in order to spell the word.  Please check folders every Monday for home support activities.  These will include high frequency words “Trick Words” that your child should be able to read fluently.  These words are not tapped out.   English Language Arts:   Learning About Informational Text Structure With prompting and support answer questions about key details in a text. Identify the main topic and retell key details of a text. Ask and answer questions about unknown words in a text.   Ways to support Reading at home: Continue to read to/with your child nightly! Ask your child to answer what’s the main idea and some details about the books you’ve read and encourage them to answer with a full sentence Please have your child practice reading the K words attached to the newsletter. Writing: Listening to and discuss good writing Learning where good writers get ideas and how they provide details to engage the reader. Adding more detail to their writing – extending beyond one sentence Starting all sentences with a capital letter and ending with punctuation Stretching out the words and writing down the sounds that they hear or using known trick words Math: Continuing the counting sequence to 100, backwards from 30, counting forward and backwards from any given number, and naming the number before or after Writing and representing numerals 0–20 – big focus on those teen numbers Understanding that the last number said in a count represents the total quantity Counting object in multiple configurations/arrangements to answer “How
