  • 3rd Quarter FLES

    Through April 2017 we have made some adjustments to the FLES program for Westerly. All students will have FLES with a certified Spanish teacher on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Thursdays and Fridays they will have a Latin music and culture class with the school’s music teacher. We hope your child continues to enjoy their Spanish language and cultural learning experience!   • Hispanic Heritage Festival

  • "La mar estaba serena"

    Students in Grades 1-4 are going to begin learning the song "La mar estaba serena," a traditional Peruvian song about the ocean.  Students will notice that it is similar to the well-known song in English, "I like to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas" in that, with each verse, the vowels change.  We are using it to practice the Spanish vowels which look the same as they do in English, but sound different!  Grade 1 learned this song…

    Students in Kindergarten have begun their first unit: "Mi clase y yo."  We started by learning the songs Hola amigos by Teresa Jennings and Adiós amigos by José-Luis Orozco. Subscribe to Orozco's channel on Youtube to see more of his videos for early Spanish learners!

  • Vamos al Mar

    Students in Grades 1-4 have started their first unit: "Vamos al Mar."  We started by looking at the ocean in Westerly and then traveled to Peru! Misquamicut: To travel to Peru we used "La Carretera Panamericana" (The Pan-American Highway): And then ended up in M​áncora, Perú! We learned: "El mar es importante en Westerly, Rhode Island y M​áncora, Perú."  To learn more, students can use Google Maps to explore other parts of Peru and/or other places in the world where "el mar es…
