RHODE ISLAND COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT SYSTEM
In the spring of 2017, The Rhode Island Department of Education announced that it was evolving from the PARCC to RICAS for its state assessment. RICAS stands for the Rhode Island Comprehensive Assessment System and draws from the Massachusetts Assessment system, known as MCAS.
Last week, RICAS has released its accessibility and accomodations manual to provide educators and LEAs guidance in making decisions that allow all students access to its new assessment. IEP and 504 teams will be discussing these accessibility features and accommodations at team meetings. To peruse this new document, click here.
Dynamic Learning Maps describe a learning map model as the following, "The DLM Alternate Assessment System helps educators facilitate student success by illustrating the interrelation among the knowledge, skills, and understandings necessary to meet academic content standards in a learning map model. The basis of all DLM assessments, the learning map model was developed by teams of researchers through extensive review and synthesis of research literature. It undergoes continual review and refinement by experts in academic content, special education, and cognition."
