    Why do I teach Spanish?

I began learning Spanish like my students, in middle and high school at Chariho.  In college, URI, I continued studying but earned a degree in Communications & Spanish.  My senior year I lived with a family in Granada, Spain.  That is where it all come alive for me!  I came home to RI and graduated.  However, I still didn't know what I wanted to do!  A woman I interned with at URI let me help with her URI 101 course for incoming freshman.  It became my favorite day of the week.  When the real world set in and I had to start supporting myself I combined my love of Spanish and my new interest in teaching.  Back at URI, I got my teaching certificate.  Here I am 15 years later and I still love being in the classroom!  I like how I can have mature conversations with high school students and that everyday is different.  It is amazing to see what students can do!  Anyone can learn something new if you try.  In the words of César Chávez, civil rights activist, "Sí se puede." Yes, you can!"  And as the very inspiring Nobel Laureate Malala says, "Education is a blessing and a necessity."
