What is Empathy exactly?
Posted by Aleta Daley-Okolicsanyi on 3/21/2017 12:34:56 PMImagine that you meet a person who has never heard of empathy. Sound
impossible? Well, in the former Soviet Union, there wasn't any place
for what was considered sentimentality, responses like empathy.
This person speaks English and asks you what empathy is. You
must explain by showing examples: (1) from literature (2) one from
actual experience.
In explaining, you cannot just repeat or restate the definition or use
similar terms like kindness and compassion. This person does not
have the context to understand those words either. It's up to you to
illustrate the power and the meaning.
