Course DescriptionENGLISH I: FRESHMAN HONORS (111)
1 credit
Grade 9
This accelerated course reviews all major genres of literature from the Western canon and instructs learners in applying synthesis techniques while providing many opportunities to master literary analysis. Learners will polish and expand skills in academic writing, research, grammar, mechanics and usage as well as oral communication and interactive listening skills. Recommendation from Grade 8 teacher is strongly encouraged as the course moves at a rapid pace and expects independence and initiative from the student.
Teacher Philosophy: I truly believe I educate the whole student, preparing him or her for life, not just the workforce. With that in mind, I leave you with this quote by Thomas C. Foster, a literary professor and published author: “Literature, in other words, is a system, a worldwide shared experience across millennia. There are connections everywhere because everything is connected.” From How to Read Novels like a Professor
